I went to Lake Kasumigaura-field to get bass-fish last weekend, but hardly did I get any bites from bass.

Bass fishing in summer holidays 2012

We have “O-bon” holidays (see the details below) this time of year in Japan, and many company and stores are closed during the O-bon holidays.
I made use of this opportunity and went bass-fishing for the first time since last July.

It was a really hot summer day on 13th when I went fishing to Lake Kasumi. The water temperature out there was around 28(too hot!!), which I decided not to fish in the main lake. I checked some of the tiny streams running through from the lake, and then I caught a couple of fish this time.

“O-bon”
“This is an In Buddhists event occurring from the 13th to 16th of July or August to hold a memorial service to the spirits of ancestors. Because the spirits of the dead are said to return at this time, fires are lit at the entrances to homes so the spirits do not lose their way, and, in addition to lanterns being lit inside homes, the Buddhist home alters are tidied up and vegetables and fruit are set out as offerings. And when bon is over, the spirits are sent on their way. This is called the escorting of the spirits and fires to speed their seeing off are lit at entrances of homes and offerings are floated on rivers and the ocean.”

Enjoying bass-fishing in Lake Kasumi

This time, I visited several tiny streams running through from Lake Kasumigaura to check if I could catch in late spring. It was a nice day and I enjoyed bass-fishing in one crisp spring day, feeling calm and relaxed.

I caught four good fishes with two big ones in this fishing trip, which I didn’t expect. (It is said that Lake Kasumi is one of the toughest fishing fields in Japan…)

Anyway, I posted a picture clip on YouTube showing the fishes I caught this time below.

Fishing trip to Lake Kasumigaura

Last Monday, on 21st, I went to the riverine system along Lake kasumigaura to enjoy spring-fishing again. The weather out there was so nice that I became refreshed and felt calm.
However, I didn’t have a good fishing this time again…, the condition of the fishing field out there is so tough for me as usual. Well, my you-tube clip below shows how my fishing this time was like.

Golden Week 2

Golden Week 2 (Arakawa-river)
On the last day of the Golden Week, Sunday May 6th, I went to Arakawa-river if I could enjoy spring bass-fishing.
The weather was so nice that I felt good out there doing fishing.
Water in the river was muddy on that day due to heavy rain a couple of days ago, so I had a little difficult time fishing.
I mainly tried shad-lures expecting to get some reaction-bites from the fish because soft lures like worms didn’t work at all.

I finally got about 35cm bass with a “Soul-shad” lure (see the photo video posted below). That was the first bass that I caught in this river this fishing season!!

Golden Week 1

Last week we had spring holidays in Japan, called “Golden Week”.

“Golden Week”
The end of April through around May 5th is called "Golden Week" in Japan since there are many national holidays during this period. Many Japanese offices close for about a week to 10 days, depending on the calender. People take a vacation and travel around the country or abroad, so tourist attractions in Japan are crowded during this time. Also, airports and train stations in Japan are crowded with people. It is hard to get reservations for accommodations and transportation during Golden Week.
Derived from About Com

This year, weather through the week was not fine enough to go out for enjoying the leisure time, but I went fishing to lake Kasumi when the weather was allowed.

First fish! with “Soul Shad by Jackall”
38cm!! not bad!!

Another fish! 30cm.
Shad-lures worked really well this day!!

Just before the sunset, I got…

This is not what I want to ...

Anyway,  I enjoyed one spring day doing some fishing!

A big one and DAIWA Pixy 68L

The season of cherry blossoms is almost over in my area, and the real bass-fishing season just began.
The other day, I just went to a small lake in Gunma prefecture, which is located to the north of Tokyo, to check if we could enjoy bass-fishing.

Cherry blossoms have almost fallen・・・it’s sad to see them fallen, but it tells us that fishing season has started as well!!
Look at this!! 50cm!!

Spring has come!!

I went to Lake Kasumi for another fishing-trip the other day, and finally got the first fish(the picture below) in the Kasumi-field this year!!

Now that spring has come, we expect to have a good season for fishing throughout Japan!!

The cherry blossoms are blooming here and there in Kanto region, where I live. We enjoy seeing cherry trees in full bloom in the beginning of April.
It’s a 30cm-bass!!

Today’s main tackle with “Neko-rig”, a stress-less rig

Although I got only one-bite and caught only one fish in the picture above on that day, I enjoyed one spring day by bass-fishing in the field.

Spring is yet to come...

Since I got my tackles ready (picture below), I went to the lake to check how much it works after I replaced some parts of the reel.
When I got one of the sites in Lake Kasumigaura, I found it heavily-windy out there so that I could hardly cast my rod against the gale.

looks good adding a new carbon handle!!
wonderfully completed!!

windy, windy, windy...

I am going to try the reel again on the day when it is not windy.

Waiting for the spring season!!?

A chopped reel???
Speaking of the weather here in Tokyo, we still haven't had spring, still cold, and still hard to get up in the morning even though it has not been that much cold these days.

Since I am not motivated to go fishing due to the weather like this, I just tried to refurbish my reel.

Still off-season??? Not really!!

The second fishing trip to Lake Kasumigaura

I know the field condition out there was not the one that I expected, but I tried it again the other day.
It was still awesomely cold and seemed like I got no fish again…

I checked several fishing areas travelling around the lake; casting shad lures, and then moved to another point, casting, casting, casting...all day...

Just before setting of the sun, finally, I caught one!

just before the sunset...

This was the first fish in this season!!

45cm !!

Off-season? No fish in lake Kasumigaura!

This winter is somehow special; record low temperature and a deadly low water temperature.

I traveled around the lake to do the fishing this time, only to find that there was no response from the fish... it means I got no fish!!

It’s awesomely tough doing fishing in this season, and I myself can’t stand being in cold weather!! Well, I guess I may as well wait until spring・・・??

Happy New Year from Japan!!

It looks a little small in the picture but actually looks bigger to the naked eye than the one in the picture!

Daiwa: PX 68L  An ultra finesse bait-cast reel

I will enjoy so-called “bait finesse” fishing-style in the coming season with this gear and deal with high fishing pressure in Kasumigaura-field.
